Bangkok!

Sa-wat-dee kraup - Hello from Bangkok!

We arrived in Bangkok early Tuesday morning (2am,) luckily we had booked a shuttle from the airport so made our way easily to our hotel for some much needed sleep after 14 hours flying!!
On day 1 we managed to suss the train system and train into the city and find our  hotel on koh San road. Koh San is the tourist area of Bangkok and there were people everywhere!! The street is filled with markets and food stalls, with people trying to sell you all sorts of things. The roads are very busy in Bangkok with lots of people riding motorcycles or tuk tuks. For the afternoon we went to MBK and Siam paragon which are two MASSIVE shopping malls. On the top floor you could even buy a car if you wanted!
It is very hot in Bangkok! So after we had shopped up a storm we returned to our hotel to swim in our roof top pool. Koh San road is just as busy at night as it is during the day. We ventured out for dinner for some pad Thai! (Although the Thai food here isn't as good as Mrs Suangoon's cooking!)
On day 2, we visited some cultural landmarks in Bangkok including The Grand Palace, The Reclining Budda, and the standing budda. Today I also had my first ride in a tuk-tuk ... What an experience!
We were very tired from all our sight seeing so caught a boat back up the river to our hotel for an afternoon swim. We did a lot of walking today, so finished the day with a foot spa on koh San road. A foot spa in Thailand is when you put your feet into a big pool of little fish. The fish eat all the dead skin off your feet. It tickled a lot!!
Everything is Bangkok is very cheap! With the very generous 1100 baht given to Miss Grant by her touch team she was able to pay for; 1 nights accomadation in a 3 star hotel (with roof top pool), dinner and drinks at a restaurant, a new pair of Ray Ban sunnies AND a massage and foot spa on ko San road! Thank you very much!! Everyone in Bangkok barters for the price - we are not very good yet, but are getting better.
We have enjoyed our time in Bangkok but tomorrow we are catching the train to Cambodia!
Hope all is well in NZ,
Shaun xx
