Mekong Delta

Some pictures from our trip to the Mekong Delta.
Our day started with a bus trip down to the Mekong Delta, we stopped at this cool cafe where instead of tables and chairs they had hammocks to lie in.
Shaun liked this a lot...

We then went by boat over the Mekong river. On the delta we enjoyed a boat trip, lunch, honey tasting, locally grown fruits and listened to some local music.

We had to keep our hands inside this boat at all times as there were crocodiles and piranhas in there!!

We even got these Vietnamese hats so we could look like the locals. (Miss Grant thought it would be perfect for Miss McCulloch to wear when she was in the school garden!)

Yesterday we travelled overnight by train to Nha Trang. We really like it here - it is right on the beach and much more quiet than Saigon city!

  1. Hello Shaun, Miss Grant and Kirsty! We are enjoying reading your blog and seeing where in the world you are! Those hammocks look really comfy, we might suggest to Mrs Ward that we would like some in our classroom- not sure where they would hang! The Mekong river water looks very dirty and very narrow. We all think it would have been rather scary knowing there was crocodiles and piranhas in the Mekong river as you were traveling down! Did you have your fingers crossed that you wouldn't fall in! Did you wear a life jacket? The boats don't look as safe as the ones in NZ. We all think that Miss McCulloch would love a hat like that, we think you two look fantastic in yours! Keep on having fun! 1. Great to hear from you Matai team!! Yes the water was very dirty - we made sure we didn't order fish for lunch! The Mekong river was quite wide, but we got on the little boats to go down a stream for lunch. It was very scary! I made sure I didn't hold onto the edge of the boat. But they did tell us afterwards that they catch most of the crocodiles so the locals don't eat them, and put them in a crocodile park. No we didn't have to wear a life jacket. I hope you are all working hard at school and you enjoyed the school reunion in the weekend! Miss Grant, Kirsty and Shaun 🐑
